My holiday
Last Sunday, the 13 October was the last day our term 3 holiday. I didn't do much.π
Most of the time I slept, I would sleep until around 11 or 12 Am, then I would go eat something and shower. Some of the days after we picked my dad up from work my mum would take my sister and I to the park. Other then that, last Saturday my family and I went to a hot water beach. At the entrance there was a sign and a diagram explaining the reason why the water was heated. The reason was because right under the sand there was lava. Once we were on the beach we realised that we needed a shovel to dig the sand out to actually get to the hot water, we didn't have a shovel so we used our hands to dig. The water was really, really hot. We really enjoyed it though. Once we were done having fun we went to the showers to wash the sand off and while my dad was waiting for my sister my, my mum and me he found out that we could have rented a shovel. After we had a rinsed the sand we changed into dry clothes and left.
My holiday may have been boring but I enjoyed it. I cant wait till next holiday

Technology wood: My project
Every Wednesday all the seniors go down to Tamaki College for Technology and on Wednesday the 22nd of May was our last technology lesson before we swapped classes (I'm in technology wood). All of us in technology wood had to finish what we were making before we swapped classes. I was almost done and I did finish. We didn't get to take our projects home as soon as we finished since Mr Grundy, our tech teacher for wood needed time to mark our projects so he could give us a mark for our reports. Today our projects arrived at school so we could take it home. I made a holder and dispenser for post it notes.

Public or Privateπ
We just filled in a diagram for Cyber smart. We had to decide what information was public that we could share online and what information was private that we couldn't share. Here is a picture of the diagram I filled in.

Science experiment: Why is it that no matter how wet a nappy gets it doesn't leak ??????
Last Monday was a very exciting day even though it started off embarrassing.
On Monday morning when we saw the plan for the day we got a shock because for the first lesson we were doing a nappy experiment. When we asked Mr Raj what we were going to do with nappies he said we'll see, he then made us sit in a big circle on the mat. He then handed out plastic cups and spoons, diapers and a zip-lock bags. He said we were going to find out why no matter how much babies pee or poop the diaper never leaks. So then we had to rip open the diapers take out the cotton filling and put it on a zip-lock bag and shake it, then we started to notice some white crystals separating from the cotton. We then poured the crystals out into a cup and mixed it with water, the crystals turned into a gel. We found out that it was thanks to the crystal absorbing all the pee and poop that the diaper didn't leak. We then used the gel like snow and threw it at each other.
The next day I decided to some research about the white crystals that turned to gel were called and what they were, and I found out the crystals were called sodium polyacrylite. I am not sure how to explain what it is so watch the video in this link

Learning about space

Monday was the first day of school and it was super fun and interesting because I found out this term our inquiry topic is going to be based on science and we could learn about whatever we wanted (as long as it was based on science of course), so I chose to learning about space because I love space. Mr. Raj knew some of us would want to learn about space so before school started he went to the resource room and took the solar system model for our class so we can learn about our solar system. I can't wait.

My first speech (a recount)
My first speech
On the 22 of March after the school’s assembly I said my first speech in the school hall.
I was not the only one saying a speech. There were quite a few other year 7 and 8’s saying speeches too, the rest of the year 7 and 8’s who weren't saying speeches watched us. Some other learners from different classes decided to stay behind in the hall to watch us.
The purpose of the speech was to see which four learners would be a good leaders for our four house groups.The name of the groups are: Ta wai O'Taiki (blue), Taurere (green), Kaiahiku (yellow) and Maungarei (red). I am running for house captain of Ta Wai O'Taiki.
This was the first time I said a speech in front of so many people. My speech was about me telling the learners why I want to be house captain and why I would be a good house captain.
I was very nervous. A few moments before it was my turn I literally couldn't breathe. I was supposed to look at my audience and say my speech and only look down at my page with my speech on it when i got confused, but because I was so nervous i looked at my page the whole time and only looked up at the end.
My speech didn't go as bad as I thought it would and I don't want to do that again (except for when I’m running for head or deputy head girl of course). Although if I do have to do a speech in front of so many people again I probably won't be so shy.
This was a weird experience and I am glad it is over. Although I have to admit it did improve my self confidence.

Technology at Tamaki College -- woodwork
Hello,
Today I walked to Tamaki College for technology. Excitingly I started my working drawing (final drawing) of what I was going to make with wood. Before I started I thought it was going to be easy but it turned out to be extremely difficult. I will only say what I am making when I am done as I don't want any one from my class to copy me
